Before you ask this ain’t Steve Clark’s lager. The name also belongs to the Glaswegian side of my family and so this is for them. An easy-going beer fit for a Summer’s night and Dookit Brewing’s answer to a certain, highly popular lager brewed just down the road from us.
The base is all Hana malt for freshly baked goodness and a little honey. The hops are sourced from a family owned and carbon neutral farm down in Kent, which has fast become our go-to place for hops. The Pilgrim and Fuggle in this brew offer up grassy, hedgerow and earthy flavours, along with pear-like, red berry and minty notes too.
This Pilsner does take some inspiration from many macro lagers in that it has a low-ish abv (4.5%) and has a low bitterness (20 IBUS). But it’s done the Dookit way: small scale brewing with all natural ingredients, low intervention methods, no filtration and bottle conditioning.
