Zena

ARTWORK BY KATIE CLARK

SESSION BLONDE ALE
3.8% ABV
SEASONS CHANGE

Named after my lovely late Gran, whose support meant Dookit could set up its own brewery, the beer is sweet, easy- going and delightful. Much like she was really. Although it’s a bit bitter! And she didn’t have a bitter bone in her body.

Artwork by my other beautiful late Gran: Katie Clark. A great Glaswegian artist and much loved woman.

Those of you with keen memories may remember the Zana: a light and crisp Summer Ale, which was the first release from our Tollcross home back in the day. Zena, as a beer, is a riff on that recipe whereby the lager grist and yeast is replaced by ingredients fit for the most sessionable ale.

Extra Pale Maris Otter malt is bulked up by Scottish oats, Cara and dextrin malts. Saphir hops were added to the mash for delicate orange citrus flavours. Then, a go-to Dookit Brewing hop combination of Endeavour and Pilgrim was added in the kettle providing a British fruit basket of flavours.

Expect orange zest, brambles, red berries and pear alongside freshly baked bread smells and a decent, grassy bitterness.
